Smallville
Featured In Entertainment Weekly Fall Preview Issue
(9/1) Entertainment Weekly's annual Fall 2001 Preview
issue is now hitting stores, and of course in its "Tuesdays"
section is a feature on Smallville. (and noticeably before
Bob Patterson or 24 were mentioned... vote of confidence,
anyone?)
Accompanying
the story is a photo of Tom Welling that many fans of his may
like (which you can see above), in front of a backdrop of Superman
comics. The Smallville writeup also includes quotes from
executive producer Alfred Gough, Tom (Clark Kent) Welling, and
Michael (Lex Luthor) Rosenbaum.
"Lex
is a loner, and so is Clark in many ways," Rosenbaum told
EW. "He sees something in Clark that no one else does."
Tom
Welling also addressed the idea that the series will be set in
the present day. "That will bring a lot more viewers than
had it been set back in the ['30s]," Welling said. "It
brings the issues we'll deal with up to speed."
This
issue of Entertainment Weekly also marks the Smallville
crew's first big magazine cover -- sort of. While the cover features
Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar, three small photos are at
the top of the magazine -- one of the West Wing's Rob Lowe,
one of Enterprise, and -- you guessed it -- a small photo
of "the new Superman" (their words, not ours), Tom Welling.
You
should be able to find the latest EW at newsstands everywhere
within the week.
Special
thanks goes out to Fabio of the excellent Metropolis Site (http://www.super-homem.com)
for the Tom Welling scan. You can find a scan of the magazine's
cover at http://www.smallvillenews.com.
