Superman For All Seasons
Smallville explores the story of a young Clark Kent and his place in the world on television. In the comics, this was very well illustrated in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's "Superman For All Seasons." This has been labeled a "must read" by many fans and also listed as the favorite Superman story of recent years by many. Check it out!

Superman Transformed!
In 1997 the creators of the Superman comics altered Clark's powers. Since it's a given that Smallville's Clark may be dealing with at least one electrical wraith, here's where you can find out what happened when things turned shocking for Superman. It's also good if you were away from the comics for a while and were wondering what that blue Superman thing was all about.

Premiere Day Sightings!
(10/16) TV Guide Online features Smallville as one of their highlights today, but that's just one of MANY Smallville reviews appearing across the nation and on the Internet today.

One of the show's very favorable reviews came from the L.A. Times. Critic Howard Rosenberg says, "Devoid of caricatures, this one is by far the best-ever TV depiction of the big fellow, framing him nicely as part of a coming-of-age story and treatise on little town America, before he moves to Metropolis and becomes Christopher Reeve." You can find the complete review by clicking here.

You can also find a new review at the excellent 4 Color Review comics site, and chances are if you look up the website of your local paper or a national paper like USA Today, you may very likely find Smallville reviews or previews there too. Thanks to everyone who has sent in leads; our apologies that we can't post every single one.

Upcoming Smallville Episode Satisfies "Craving"
(10/16) An episode with the title of "Craving" could possibly be Smallville's seventh. (We say this because shooting order does not necessarily represent airing order)

You can find some spoiler information about the episode on the KryptonSite spoilers page.

Daily Hollywood Reporter Favorably Reviews and Features Smallville
(10/16) The October 15 daily edition of the Hollywood Reporter features Smallville on its front page, and it also features a favorable review of the pilot episode.

"In Tom Welling, Smallville has a perfect [Clark] Kent, and the WB has a surefire teen heartthrob," reviewer Barry Garron said.

WB Orders Another DC Comics-Related Pilot From Tollin-Robbins
(10/16) Smallville might not be the only DC Comics-related TV series produced by Tollin-Robbins next season on the WB.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the WB has ordered a pilot for Birds of Prey, based on the DC Comic about a trio of female crimefighters. Laeta Kalogridis ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider") is attached to write the pilot for this project.

No word if at all there will be a possibility for a Smallville crossover or tie-in. For the Hollywood Reporter's complete article, you can click here.

Starlog Magazine Features Smallville Cover & Interior Article
(10/14) Issue #292 of Starlog magazine, which just hit newsstands, has an excellent four-page article on Smallville by Joe Nazzaro. It is lined with cast photos from the show and quotes from several of the people involved with making the series.

Regarding Smallville, executive producer/writer Miles Millar had this to say in the article: "We wanted to do something different, but the challenge was, how do you show Superman, who has been around for almost 70 years, in a different way? When we went to actually research it, we found the formative aspects of Clark's life really hadn't been explored. It was always 15 minutes of a movie or a couple of pages in a comic book, so it felt like fresh territory to us. We aren't doing what Lois & Clark or the movies did."

The magazine's cover features the original cast shot of Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, and Kristin Kreuk in the bottom half. The cover itself is rather interesting because the top half features the new series Mutant X, which stars John Shea, who played Lex Luthor in Lois & Clark. Two Lexes on one cover for one low price, how can you go wrong there? You can find Starlog online at http://www.starlog.com, and at most magazine-carrying newsstands.

"Do you believe a man can fly?"An Image From Smallville's Fourth Episode!
(10/15) The first episode of Smallville won't be on until Tuesday night, but photos from future episodes are already creeping out.

The latest photo to be released is from the fourth episode of the series, which is titled "X-Ray," and the image features Annette O'Toole as Martha Kent. Close examination reveals a very interesting headline. You can click on the photo for a better view, and you can visit the KryptonSite spoilers page to find out what it's all about!

This photo and two more from "X-Ray" can be found at Cinescape Online. "X-Ray" airs November 6 on the WB.

"Do you believe a man can fly?"Smallville Flying To TNT?
(10/14) Entertainment Weekly reports that week-old repeats of Smallville might be showing up on the TNT cable network as early as next season. A similar deal has recently been signed for TNT to air Charmed this way, and it sounds like that might be a possibility for some other WB programs, such as Smallville and Gilmore Girls, next year. We'll let you know if we hear any more about that.

Comic Shop News Reviews Smallville
(10/14) Those of you who still have comic book stores nice enough to order Comic Shop News can find a review of Smallville in their latest issue.

CSN's Cliff Biggers calls Smallville "the season's most promising new offering from WB," and gives good notes to the show's creative team and actors. He calls Tom Welling "a very believable high-school-aged Clark;" Kristin Kreuk is a "striking Lana Lang," and he says Michael Rosenbaum as Lex "really stands out."

Issue #747 of CSN is free at good comic shops, and it features X-Men: Evolution on the cover. Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood is one store that we know carries it.

Smallville Cover on New York Daily News TV Mag
(10/14) "Super Dave" has informed us that Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk are featured on the cover of this week's New York Daily News TV Vue magazine insert. The cover feature is "The Boy Who Became Superman." If you don't live anyplace you can get the Daily News you might want to check your local library.

Smallville Pilot Runs Long
(10/14) We have been informed that the pilot episode of Smallville, which will be airing on Tuesday, October 16, will be running a few minutes longer than usual hour-long programs.

The show will still begin at 9PM but it may creep a little bit into the 10PM hour. There are MANY great moments in the pilot, and having the extra time for the show will make it a great experience. Be sure to have your VCR's prepared accordingly. Only two more days until Tuesday is here!

However, the new promos are worth looking out for: The new promos include clips from the upcoming episode "Metamorphosis" and possibly beyond! Check them out on the WB Television Network.

E! Online Talks To Kristin Kreuk
(10/13) Kristin Kreuk (Smallville's Lana) was just interviewed by E! Online, where she talked about her initial reaction to the role, and which Smallville guy would catch Lana's attention.

To see what Kristin had to say, click here.

Superman Comics Writer Jeph Loeb Talks Smallville
(10/13) A fan on a DC Comics online message board asked the writer of the Superman comic book series, Jeph Loeb, for his thoughts on Smallville. Here's the response Loeb gave him:

"I've seen the Smallville pilot and like it quite a lot. It is definitely a reinterpretation of the legend, but one that holds up quite well (moments remind me of the Glenn Ford section of the Superman Movie).

Lana is *hot*. No more needs to be said on that.

As to DC's involvment, that's a Mike Carlin question, not mine.

I DID meet with the folks who produced the show and wrote the pilot, more out of the "I work in Television" part of it, than "we wanted to meet the comic book guy" part of it. They are, indeed, respectful to the material and very complimentary to the Superman books and to Superman For All Seasons. Good gang of folks.

Mostly, I hope the show is a hit because anything that is good for Superman is good for comics. I'm sure there will be some fans who don't like it because it IS so different, but I see the similarities and find them to be good springboards for further shows. May they have a hundred episodes!

Jeph"

Thanks to Ryan Pratt for passing this along.

The Art of Being... Michael Rosenbaum
(10/12) TheWB.com's official Smallville site now has an "Art of Being.." feature about Michael Rosenbaum, Smallville's Lex Luthor.

Of his varied roles in his career, Rosenbaum had this to say: "Playing a bad guy (as in Lex Luthor) is a little weird. Overall, it makes sense because so far I've gone from one extreme to the other. I went from playing this innocent homosexual kid to a college frat boy to the mean guy in Urban Legend and a transvestite in Sweet November to this. Smallville is my first dramatic series. Will it change my life? I don't think so. I'm going to be just fine. I am sure there's a club for bald men out there somewhere that I can always join."

You can find the complete feature by clicking here. Thanks to EmotionalHermit for the lead.

Chicago Tribune Talks To Tom Welling
(10/12) The Chicago Tribune's October 11 edition featured some quotes from Tom Welling about the character he will be playing on the WB's upcoming "most anticipated show."

"[Superman's] a pretty huge exaggeration of the abilities we'd all like to have and the way we'd like to be. He's a decent person," Welling said of the character. "He works for a higher goal than money or fame. He helps people and saves people. But in his normal life, he's a little awkward and doesn't know exactly what to do. It's that balance between the two that I think people are attracted to and connect with."

You can find the entire Tribune article by clicking here. Thanks to EmotionalHermit for the lead on this one too!

And you thought radioactive spiders were annoying...Smallville Episode #2 Guest Star: Chad E. Donella
(10/7) We have learned that Smallville's second antagonist character will be played by an actor by the name of Chad E. Donella. Chad's previous credits include an episode of The X-Files and the movie "Final Destination." To the right you can find a shot of Chad from "Final Destination."

Episode #2 of Smallville is titled "Metamorphosis," and it is airing on October 23. If you think radioactive spiders changed teens, just wait till you see what happens when Kryptonite-irridated bugs bite!
