SMALLVILLE 200: Interview: Allison Mack At The Smallville Episode #200 Red Carpet
Interview by Craig Byrne
At the Smallville 200th Episode Red Carpet on September 25, KryptonSite and several other media outlets spoke with members of the show's cast and crew for exclusive interviews.
We've been posting interviews here on KryptonSite for the past few weeks (you can find them from the News page), and this week specifically, we will be rolling out even more interviews about the show's 200th episode, which airs Friday, October 15 on The CW.
Today, we post our interview with Allison Mack (Chloe), a longtime favorite of the series, and she talks a bit about the show's longevity, her character's romantic pairings, directing for the show, her new career, and more. Enjoy!
Please do not repost this interview on other websites; instead just link directly to it. Thanks! Smallville airs Friday nights at 8PM on The CW. Questions to Allison Mack are in bold; answers are not.
Be warned there are some SPOILERS within!
Did you ever expect Smallville to get to 200 episodes?
No! Every out-of-work, unemployed actress never expects a show to even get past the pilot, let alone fifth season, sixth season, seventh season, and now tenth season. It's amazing. It's a total feat.
It's funny, when I got the invitation for this party, I was much too busy in New York, and then all of a sudden I sat myself down, and I was like "You know what? This is amazing. This is what every actor dreams of. 200 episodes? That's incredible."
Do you know yet when you'll be returning to the show?
I'll be back around November [shooting], so I'm not sure where. I think that's episode 13. I'm not sure.
Can you talk about Chloe's heroic nature which made her do what she did in "Lazarus?"
It's only fitting that Chloe sacrifices herself for one of the super heroes of her story, and I think it's a perfect end to my saga.
What have you been up to in New York?
I'm having a whole new adventure, and I'm loving every second of it. I'm finding myself on the stage again, which feels so good, and is so challenging.
Is it fun to be playing different characters after so many years of playing Chloe?
Very much so. It's nice, and it feels like I'm sort of starting my career over again. Everything feels very new. It's like I took a ten year hiatus to come and do this show, and now coming back to the industry, it's really interesting.
I hear you are doing a webseries.
I did an episode of a webseries [Riese] that a friend of mine, Kaleena Kiff, had written and developed with her company, and I'm going to be at Comic Con in New York with some friends to promote that.
What was your take on the Chloe and Oliver relationship?
I loved it. It was so much fun. I love working with Justin Hartley. I think he's an incredible actor, and I loved the opportunity for Chloe to play something a little sexier, a little grittier, a little bit more dangerous, and more adult. It was really nice.
Are you disappointed that Chloe never ended up with Clark romantically?
No.
No?
No. I'm very happy with the way that the relationship between Clark and Chloe remained.
What was it like to direct for Smallville last season?
Amazing. Directing is always incredible. Last season, it was really interesting because I knew enough to know what I didn't know, which was really a humbling and amazing experience.
