Planet Krypton and KryptonSite have
been following the development of Smallville
since the original announcements of a "teenage Clark Kent project"
in September 2000. KryptonSite was the first-ever site devoted to Smallville,
and with constant updates, it just hasn't been possible to keep everything on
the main page.
Here's some of the news from September 6-10, 2001....
TV Guide Gives Smallville The "Thumbs
Up"
(9/10) TV Guide's Fall Preview for 2001 has arrived, and their review glows like a hunk of Kryptonite. "The WB may have lost Buffy, but it scores again in the fantasy and teen-angst genres with this lovingly crafted, nostalgically evocative yet contemporary update," they said. You can read their entire preview online by clicking here. Inside the latest copy of the printed version of TV Guide you'll also find some great new photos of Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, and Michael Rosenbaum together. Smallville
in the Key of X Mark Snow is tapped to provide music for Smallville and most likely its theme music as well. "I'm expecting to do a mix of orchestral and modern-contemporary rhythms. There's going to be acoustic guitar and simple piano, an Americana folk element -- that intimate sound contrasting with the big sound when necessary. Plus, there are going to be a lot of songs geared to the WB's young audience. I don't think it's going to be eclectic; I think it's going to be more like Blink-182 and other contemporary bands. There are music supervisors who are in charge of selecting that music," Snow said. Since most of his TV work has made it onto a CD, you might want to start saving up for your Smallville soundtrack now :-) Special thanks as always to EmotionalHermit for the lead. "Anne
Frank & Me" Hits #3 On The L.A. Times Bestseller
List What does this have to do with Smallville, you ask? Bennett and Gottesfeld are the writers of the third episode of Smallville, which will be titled "Jitters." They have a *huge* following in the teen-novel market, hopefully some of which will cross over onto Smallville. You can order a copy of "Anne Frank & Me" online by clicking here, and when you do, please feel free to send in a review! Cinescape
Magazine Features Smallville Preview & Kristin Kreuk Interview The interview with Kristin reveals her previous exposure to the Superman family of characters, and what may come for a romantic future between Lana and Clark. "I don't know if that will ever happen, they haven't told me," Kristin revealed. "It won't be for a while if it does [happen]. They are trying to keep us apart, but I think that is important because it wouldn't make any sense if they were together because it just doesn't work out." Then, in the TV preview, there are quotes from Michael (Lex) Rosenbaum, Tom (Clark) Welling, and John (Jonathan Kent) Schneider, as well as Smallville executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. "The interesting thing about the series is you know how it's going to end," Millar said. "You know Lex and Clark will end up in Metropolis and be bitter enemies." Millar went on to add, "We are always going to play with people's expectations and what they think Lex and Clark are about." Alfred Gough also illustrated one of the advantages of a new character like Chloe Sullivan (be warned, some minor spoilers follow). "Chloe is from Metropolis, and not having lived in Smallville all her life [acts as] the audience, pointing out that weird things are happening that are obviously a reaction from the meteor shower," he revealed. You should be able to get the latest issue of Cinescape at your local bookstore. An added bonus to this issue is a gag photo on the last page of Gotham's Creek ("from the producers of Smallville") that just hasto be seen to be appreciated. Cinescape also has a great website at http://www.cinescape.com. You can find a picture of the latest issue (with the two variant covers) at the top of this article. US
Weekly Names Smallville As One Of "Ten Shows To
Watch" The story includes a paragraph about the show and its stars (whom the author describes as "really hot"), and is accompanied by a picture of Tom Welling's Clark rescuing Whitney (played by Eric Johnson) from the show's second episode, "Metamorphosis." You can see the photo to the right. Be warned, however: The US Weekly writeup includes a spoiler about why Clark Kent always seems to fall for Lana. Smallville
