At the time Jonathan Kent was killed off on Smallville, the actor that played him, John Schneider, didn't seem too happy. But the truth is -- as fantastic of a job as Mr. Schneider did, the character had to move on for Clark's growth, and Jonathan's death led to one of the most touching moments of the show.
Having lost my own father, I admit, the video at the end of "Vengeance" tugs at me even more than the actual death did, but one thing is for sure: Clark and Martha losing Mr. Kent was one of the series' most well done emotional moments. It's right up there with Glenn Ford's Jonathan passing in Superman: The Movie, and one of those things, like Lex killing Lionel, that just had to happen eventually. 42% of those voted seemed to agree, and Lionel's death itself came in second place, with 365 votes.
Hawkman's heroic death in "Icarus" came in third place, with 16%. I'm a bit surprised that the death of Tess Mercer in the "Finale" didn't rank higher than #4.
