Superman's Pal, Marc McClure

This interview is not to be reprinted in any form without the permission of KryptonSite. Marc McClure played Jimmy Olsen in all 4 Superman films and the Supergirl film. This interview was done on Saturday, April 26th, 2003 at the Chiller Theatre convention in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Kryppy: What was your knowledge of Superman prior to when you first played Jimmy Olsen?

McClure: Ah, watching the 50's serial. Watching Jack Larson, watching
George... and you know, watching television. Anything to keep me away from homework.

Kryppy: What did it mean to you to play Jimmy Olsen in the Superman films?

McClure: Well, it was a responsibility. A responsibility to Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel. I mean, I don't think I felt the responsibility, but as I grew older I realized there was a lot of responsibility involved and it was great. A good honor.

Kryppy: What are some other projects you've done?

McClure: Apollo 13, Back to the Future movies, I Want to Hold Your Hand, a lot of Walt Disney films... a little bit of everything, all good stuff.

Kryppy: What do you think of Smallville?

McClure: Ah, I saw Chris on it a little bit ago. It was very nice, very good. I liked the music, they had some Superman music in there, and Chris did a great job. I thought the cast was good. It's a good show. They got a guy from DC Comics involved, and I think that's a plus. I think they should use all the DC comic book writers as much as they can. And I think the DC comic book writers should create the next Superman movie.

Kryppy : If you were asked to make a guest appearance on Smallville, would you be interested?

McClure : Yeah! Absolutely.

Kryppy : Is there anything you'd like to add?

McClure : Ah, I'll add 5 5 = 10.

Kryppy : Thanks a lot.

McClure : You got it.
