Reeve Guest Appearance One Of The "Greatest TV Moments" of 2003
Christopher Reeve
's appearance as Dr. Virgil Swann in "Rosetta" was named #6 among TV Guide's Greatest Moments of 2003. This "passing of the torch" was noted on TV Guide's Greatest Moments TV special which aired on Sunday night on ABC. We are hearing that Tom Welling also appeared to say good things about Reeve's appearance. More details on what exactly it was that he said to come when we hear more! It is fantastic news, however, to see that this great episode was noted on one of the "Big Three" networks amidst competition from a swarm of other shows.

Clark and Lana were also nominated for Best Couple; however, they lost to Ryan and Marissa of The O.C.

Thanks to everyone who e-mailed us to let us know!

Remy Zero No More
Product Placement Pete now has one fewer music group to cheer on, as "Remy Zero has been put to rest," the group has announced.

Remy Zero, of course, is the band that performs the Smallville theme song, "Save Me." They also appeared in the first season episode "Tempest."

Each member of the band has individual projects lined up which you can find at the Remy Zero website. Remy Zero, of course, lives on in Smallville reruns and every week on the show, where "Save Me" will continue to be played.

Al Gough On Smallville's Future
Good news for Smallville fans and a big "ha!" to those who preach doom and gloom: Smallville is not going anywhere in favor of the new Superman movie.

"All of the actors are contracted for at least seven seasons of the series and Miles, myself, our cast and crew plan to make the show for many years to come as long as the fans keep watching!" Smallville Executive Producer and co-creator Alfred Gough told us here at KryptonSite, bringing some great holiday news for all as well as possibly for the first time presenting that the show could last beyond five years. "The movie division is going to do what it's going to do, but we're here to stay," he assures.

John Schneider At The Kennedy Center Honors
Special thanks to: RJLanph

John Schneider exhibited his singing talent and funny bone again this week at the Kennedy Center Honors, with a salute to Carol Burnett alongside Enterprise star Scott Bakula and several actresses who wore costumed tributes to the ones that could be seen on The Carol Burnett Show. Fans who saw it on TV say that John was great.

Welling on the Future
Source: Zap2It

Tom Welling, also, commented on the future of Smallville in an interview posted at Zap2It.com. Here's what he had to say:

"I think we'll go at least a five-year period, but I don't have any interest to play Clark Kent in college, Clark Kent at his first job, Clark Kent becoming Superman, Clark Kent dying..."

This, again, would imply that the Howard Stern report might not be for real after all... you can read the whole article here.

Welling Howard Stern Report Bogus?
Special thanks to: Robwill & GreySinger

The report on Dark Horizons about Tom Welling on Howard Stern's radio show has brought on some detective work by some KryptonSite readers. First, we received this from "Robwill":

"According to http://www.marksfriggin.com which is a site that does daily Howard Stern radio show recaps, the show has been on Christmas break since December 19th and has been playing reruns since then. And of the archives of the past 2 weeks before the break, Welling's name did not come up once in a word search. In fact, I did a Tom Welling word search and his name didn't come up once on the site. So I assume that probably means that the interview did not really happen."

"Greysinger" had this to add:

"I'm pretty sure the Stern appearance news is bogus. The Howard Stern show has been doing "best of" shows since last Friday 12/19 because Howard takes the time off for christmas. So his appearance would have to have been prior to that Friday and to my knowledge he was never on it before that day. Even if that were the case why would have taken a week for the story to break? All in all it sounds like a fabrication. At least as far as the Tom on Howard Stern portion goes."

If the report is indeed not for real, keep in mind that Dark Horizons receives submissions from thousands of readers daily, and this is the exception to the rule, as the site is usually spot-on accurate (not to mention it's a great Web destination!) And if it is true... can we say "oops?" We'll keep you updated.

Tom Welling on Last Call With Carson Daly
Special thanks to: Kryppy

The Superman Homepage has posted a feature on Tom Welling's Last Call With Carson Daly appearance (which we can indeed confirm as "for real"). Among other things, Tom did reveal that he met with previous Superman movie director Brett Ratner about the possibility of playing the role on the big screen, and his response sounded much more like something Tom would really say:

"I actually went to Brett's house in Los Angeles and we sat down and talked about it a little bit, both knowing that scheduling would always be an issue," Welling said on his appearance on the show.

"Basically, if that movie were to happen, the show would pretty much have to go away, and I don't think that's what anybody wants."

Tom also revealed that he met Shaquille O'Neal at the "Cheaper By The Dozen" premiere, and that Shaq introduced him to his kids as "Superman."

Welling Talks To Howard Stern About The Superman Movie?
Special thanks to: MANOFSTEELKALEL

A report on Dark Horizons says that Tom Welling appeared on Howard Stern's radio show and talked about whether or not he'd consider playing Superman on the big screen. Here's what he (supposedly) said:

"It's not totally out of the question. at the moment, that decision lies more with the producers of the show, than it does with me. I woudn't knock back the offer. Basically, if they think this might be the last season of Smallville, than it would be the perfect opportunity. We could continue Clark's story on the big screen, and that's something the studio and the new director [he didnt say who it was] are considering."

Oddly, however, we have heard nothing about a Welling Stern appearance anywhere else, and this could be misinformation at this point. We here at KryptonSite, of course, would love to see Tom play Superman on the big screen, he is our number one choice, but not at the expense of the Smallville TV series, and think comments like "if this might be the last season" sound pretty uncharacteristic of Tom. We'll keep you updated...

Lana Makes Zap2It's "How Good Characters Can Be Better In 2004" List
A photo of Kristin Kreuk leads Zap2It.com's "How Good Characters Can Be Better In 2004" list. It offers advice to characters from several TV shows on how to improve themselves in 2004. Here's what they said for Lana:

"Accept there are secrets Clark never will reveal -- though we realize you can't read the comic books that would clue you into his destiny in Metropolis. Waiting for him to change ultimately will hurt you more than him."

You can read the entire article by clicking here. Zap2It also listed Christopher Reeve's guest appearance in "Rosetta" as the "Best Stunt Casting" for the year 2004. You can read that article by clicking here.

TV Guide's Roush Praises Rosenbaum, "Shattered"
Today's edition of "Ask Matt" at TVGuide.com featured a letter from a fan asking about Matt Roush's take on Smallville this season, most particularly his take on "Shattered," the most recent new episode. Here's what Roush had to say:

"Quite a bit of enthusiastic mail on this outstanding episode. I agree: Michael Rosenbaum was terrific. (Although dream on that anyone from this or any other WB show will ever get Emmy recognition, unless there's a radical change in the TV academy's behavior patterns.) I don't even mind the show when it's routine, but this episode was tense, emotional and focused on my favorite element of the series: the fascinating Clark-Lex friendship. Kreuk gets second billing for pretty obvious reasons, I think, but there's no question Smallville would be a pretty neglible show without Lex. Another fan, Vanessa, wrote in to praise Rosenbaum: "He has been the MVP of the series thus far and in 'Shattered,' he was just extraordinary. Tom Welling (Clark Kent) was great also, dispelling the notion that pretty ex-models can't act. This one certainly is earning his stripes. I know that you consider this show a guilty pleasure, but I am anxious to know what you thought of the episode." My bottom line: I felt a lot less guilty after watching this one."

You can read the entire article by clicking here and looking for it on the page.

Tom Welling Interviewed At Moviehole
Tom Welling
was recently interviewed at Moviehole.net, where he was promoting his new film "Cheaper By The Dozen," which hits theaters on Christmas Day.

"The top three reasons I decided to do this film were, one, Steve Martin, two, Steve Martin and three, Steve Martin. That was the number one draw for me. Then, after reading the script, I really liked this character, Charlie. I liked what he went through, what he had to go through, and I felt I understood where he was coming from. And I just wanted to be a part of it. It was the kind of story I wanted to be a part of," Tom told the site.

Regarding the still-in-development Superman movie, Tom had this to say: "Before that film could ever be brought to me on an actual level there are just too many things that probably wouldn't allow it to happen. One is the shooting schedule I have on Smallville." (Which is why, Warner Bros., wait for the show to be over, get this guy, and get the Smallville crew to produce it. Big Fat DUH!)

Tom also talked about the differences between doing the movie and doing Smallville. "I wanted to do something different, in a different medium, something that would allow me to be a little more free. A lot of times on Smallville the way we shoot the show is we'll shoot the master, then we'll go in and do some medium range shots and then, if you've ever seen Smallville, they love to go right into these real smackers right here, these real big close-ups. What that does, is you don't have a lot of movement at that point. Now, on this film I knew that there we could move around, that there'd be a little bit more room, a little more space, a little more space to create, and a lot more leeway. That was very enticing to me."

Smallville Reviewed In Entertainment Weekly
Special thanks to: Ryan C. & Dawn

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (hitting newsstands now, with The O.C. on the cover) features an article by Dalton Ross about how he thinks Smallville can get its momentum back. Some points he made are easy to agree with, some not so much. Here are some of the things he suggested:

1. Have Lex and Clark go at it.
No, he didn't mean that in the dirty way... he just means it's about time the two got in a fight and became the enemies they are destined to be.

2. Give the Kents something to do.
Ross says, "Devoted dad Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) used to play a role in Smallville's narrative, either guiding Clark through adolescent angst or dealing with his own anti-Luthor issues. Lately, however, he's been relegated to throwing concerned looks at his son while wife Martha (Annette O'Toole) panics over Clark's heroics." He then suggests having Jonathan go to work for LuthorCorp or something and deal with his issues that way. That storyline was done so well with Martha last season, it still seems like something more appropriate for *her* to do.

But we cannot disagree with the idea. The Kents need more to do. How about giving Martha an important role (like run for new Mayor, maybe?) and see how the "head of the family" feels about it. But really - John Schneider and Annette O'Toole are two of the best actors in Smallville's cast, and two of the best on the entire network; let's see more of them.

3. Make Chloe evil.
The end of Season Two teased that so prettily. And if Clark's going to be a Big Dumb Alien toward her, he kind of deserves it. Either that or make her Lois Lane. The choice is yours. :-)

4. Kill off Clark's pal Pete.
Ross pointed out that Pete has been pretty invisible, but that's still not a good reason to kill off Smallville's undercover brother. Let's just see the poor guy take on a better and bigger role in the series!

5. Go back to the future.
The writer cited the fantastic "Perry" episode with Michael McKean as a great glimpse into Clark Kent's future that we should see more of. He suggests seeing Lois, Jimmy, or Nuclear Man. (Nuclear Man?!?) Us, we're just waiting for Gus Gorman... kidding!

The latest EW is on newsstands now.

The upcoming episode of Smallville titled "Velocity" (#3-13) will feature a return to Smallville by Jeannot Schwarz, who last directed "Perry."
