Update: Injury On The Smallville Set
Eariler today, it was reported that a stuntman for Smallville was injured and taken to the hospital on Tuesday morning and remained there that afternoon. Stunt coordinator Christopher Sayour suffered "multiple fractures and internal injuries during the filming of a stunt sequence," according to a family statement. The family has asked that the media "respect our privacy as he undergoes various procedures in the coming days."

According to reports, Sayour fell 37 feet from a tower. Production was halted on Tuesday but is expected to resume today.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Christopher and his family during this difficult time and we wish him a full recovery," the WB and Warner Bros. Television said in a statement late Tuesday that was printed in today's Hollywood Reporter.

Al Gough Talks About Season 5's New Character Appearances
Special thanks to: Summers

The SciFi Wire website spoke to Smallville Executive Producer Alfred Gough about the upcoming appearances of James Marsters as a famous DC comics villain and Aquaman on the series.

"We always thought he was fantastic in Buffy and then in Angel, and he just felt like he'd be a good fit for this character," he said about James Marsters. "He was always sort of the first guy we wanted, and we met with him and told him the arc for what we wanted."

"He's a wonderful actor beyond being Spike, so I think he'll bring all of that to the role," he said. "We've talked about it, and what's nice is, he's going to be one of Clark's college professors. ... It's more of the grand seduction of Clark Kent rather than someone coming in and them throwing each other around. And I think James is really up for the challenge."

And what about the incorporation of Aquaman, who has had a renaissance as of late thanks to HBO's Entourage? "We actually had planned to do [it], because there are only so many DC comics that they're not developing as movies that we've been allowed to [do]," Gough said. "We wanted Wonder Woman, we couldn't get her. We wanted Batman, we couldn't get him. So we got The Flash. And then we said, 'How about Aquaman?' He's a much maligned character. So for our show, we thought he's a great character to teach Clark, basically, to think globally. Our take on Aquaman at this point is that he's like an environmental activist, who teaches Clark that there's more to life than just Smallville and college and things like that."

Jensen Ackles Talks Smallville & Supernatural At The Summer TCA
It was only a year ago that we were talking about Jensen Ackles joining the cast of Smallville as Lana's new love interest Jason Teague.

Now Jensen's moving on to a show of his own, with Supernatural, a series premiering on the WB Tuesday, September 13. He plays a character named Dean, a role which he promises will be a lot of fun.

KryptonSite caught up with Jensen and asked him about his new show and why it would appeal to fans who enjoyed his work on Smallville. "Well aside from the fact that I'm on it? No, just kidding," he joked. "It's got a little Supernatural edge to it. I mean, the title speaks for itself. The cool thing about this is, for Smallville fans, there's been that legacy of Clark Kent, and of Superman, and of those characters. Such a lineage that's gone for so long, and I think that what we're going to do and try to do on this new show is that we're taking actual folklore and actual urban legends, and we're going to explore those. So it's going to be things that you could research and look up on the Net, and actually test us from time to time, and make sure we're keepin' it real."

And what did he think of Jason Teague going bad in the latter half of Smallville's fourth year? "Something had to happen to that poor guy. I mean, he was just like wading in the water for a while," he said. When asked what was up with Jason never even seeing a tattoo on his girlfriend's back after dating for a few months, he had this to say: "It's kinda the running joke on set. It's like, oh, wow, the most unexciting relationship in the history of television."

We here at KryptonSite wish Jensen Ackles the best of luck on his new series Supernatural. For those of you who may be interested in the show, the WB has released two more promo shots which we have added to our Supernatural gallery.

We've also got a new photo of Jensen, taken at the TCA party, exclusive for KryptonSite fans, which you can find here. Enjoy!

John Schneider Chats Up Wopat's Guest Appearance
John Schneider had nothing but good things to say about his former Dukes of Hazzard co-star Tom Wopat's Smallville guest shot, which will be the sixth episode of Season Five.

We caught up with Schneider at the TCA Press Tour. Although Schneider does wish that Wopat's role - that of a senator and old friend to Jonathan Kent - would be recurring. "I'd love for Tom to be on the show a lot," he said, also mentioning that it was nice to work with his former Dr. Quinn co-star Jane Seymour on the show last season. "Undoubtedly, having Tom on the show is going to be a very good thing. I can't wait to see the ratings on that episode."

Aside from two made-for-TV Dukes reunion movies, Schneider and Wopat last acted together on screen over 15 years ago in the TV-movie "Christmas Comes to Willow Creek." Look for Tom Wopat's episode to air during November sweeps.

Zap2It Fans Name Lana "Worst Character"
The Zap2It website just finished its annual "Amy Awards" where the site's fans of genre television picked their favorites and least favorites. Best Ensemble Cast, Most Underused Character, and Worst Storyline were three of the many categories.

The only category Smallville was nominated in this year happened to be Worst Character. Fans sent in their nominations, much like they do with the KryptonSite Awards, before things were brought down to five choices. The choices included Lana, Marissa from The OC, Zach from Desperate Housewives, Audrey from 24, and Shannon from Lost.

The inclusion of Lana among the runner-ups sparked some VERY heated debate among the fans on the Zap2It forum, from devoted Lana fans who wanted to protect their character, who claimed her detractors were "just jealous because she is pretty." However, the number of fans who don't like the character outnumbered them, and Lana took the top spot, with 33% of the vote. But being named as worse than Marissa Cooper... ouch.

Hopefully Season 5 will be better for Lana. You can see the entire list of Amy Awards winners by clicking here. One thing is for certain, however: The Smallville fandom all goes either one way or another - they can't stand her, or they love her, but there's rarely an in between...

Report From The Comic-Con International in San Diego
Here are some updates from today in year's Comic-Con International in San Diego:

  • Saturday morning gave us a panel with "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer that also provided fans with their first look at the movie. Three minutes of footage - very much like a trailer - were seen, and they are INCREDIBLE. These words are coming from a webmaster who was quite prepared to hate the film. Fans of Smallville will notice familiar production design with a barn that looks very much on the interiors like what you see every week; the production design mixes elements from the original "Superman" films with something totally new. And the Superman costume, originally the topic of much debate online, looks terrific in motion.
  • Singer addressed a fan question about cooperation between Smallville and the new movies. While obviously the two will exist in their own different universes, efforts will be made not to step over one another. "We tried to carry the torch and respect the television show," he said. He's also shared that the interpretation of Lex Luthor in the film will come somewhere between the way Gene Hackman did it in the classic films and what Michael Rosenbaum brings to the screen in the show.
  • The only reaction to the preview that didn't seem unanimous was the reaction to Kate Bosworth's scenes in the role of Lois Lane. KryptonSite webmaster Craig, however, liked what she brought to the screen, combining the best elements of Margot Kidder, Erica Durance, and his personal favorite, Teri Hatcher, with a little bit of Katharine Hepburn thrown in.
  • We also caught up with some of the actors from the old Superman movies and learned that Jeff East (Young Clark Kent in the classic "Superman") and Marc McClure (movies' "Jimmy Olsen") would both love to appear on Smallville at some point. Margot Kidder (Dr. Bridgette Crosby) was also there.

Stay tuned for more updates!
